  • Greet the Recruiter or the Interviewer conducting your interview.
  • Be a conversationalist, interact and ask questions during the Interview.
  • Listen to the question first and then respond later so as not to interrupt the Interviewer.
  • Use open communication and active listening during the Interview.
  • Let the Interviewer know about your skills and strengths like problem-solving, ingenuity or innovation and put them in the spotlight.
  • Remain concise while elaborating and try to be as precise as possible while improvising.
  • Maintain professional Interview etiquette and a practical sense of humour. Meanwhile, remain attentive to important things discussed by the Interviewer and resolve doubts or clarify details about the job.
  • Mention some of your skills or core competencies for a good Interview impression. Back them up with relevant examples or references to sound more authentic.

     Don’ts:

  • Do not fumble while giving answers. If you’re nervous, slowly inhale and exhale to calm down gradually.
  • Do not remain quiet or unresponsive when you don’t know the answer. For instance, you can say that: “I am sorry Sir/ Ma’am but I am not able to recall the answer at this moment”.
Certainly, after that, the Interviewer will skip it as they don’t expect you to know every answer.
  • Being arrogant or ignorant of criticism. Ignorance is not a virtue and it will only lead to your rejection. Therefore, be cooperative and respectful towards the opinions and advice of the Interviewer.
  • Forget to memorize industry-specific jargon. Likewise, without core knowledge about the job, you’re only casting a sorry figure before the Interviewer.
  • Disobey instructions or procedures as given. Above all, a job application involves a lot of loops and rounds, so be patient and follow them properly.
  • Give complex or vague answers. Interviewers are not willing to test their attention span so clearly explain yourself and avoid miscommunications.
  • Do not be irrational lacking basic manners or etiquette. Most importantly, follow the Interview decorum and be patient.
  • Do not lie about your Experience. Moreover, you risk losing your job or getting expelled from the selection process if detected.
  • Be honest, don’t falsify information or interrupt the Interviewer. Moreover, try to be courteous for the best Interview impression.
  • Most importantly, don’t think negotiation is useless. Employers do expect employees to negotiate but remain flexible as per their preferences and try to arrive at a mutual understanding.
  • Do not quote your Expected CTC (in numbers), instead provide a range in which you’re comfortable. However, if the company offers a fixed salary, avoid the negotiation initially but reevaluate your worth when an opportunity comes your way.
